Bangor to Gigha 10 July 2022

Evening light over the island of Islay from Gigha

Departed Bangor at 07.30 to head north on our first ‘holiday’ on board Lazaway.  Very calm but also very grey - the news is full of a heatwave in the UK, but it is obviously an English thing. Low cloud, grey sky and threatening fog stayed with us until Machrihanish.
It was only the presence of The Maidens that told us where the sea stopped and the sky started.

Bands of cloud hug the Machrihanish coastline

The calm weather enabled us to see a few cetaceans.  We saw a few Harbour Porpoise in the middle of the North Channel, and then just south of Kintyre we saw two Minke Whales.  This was followed by three Bottle-nosed Dolphins while we were on the mooring at Gigha.  What a treat.

By the time we got to Gigha the sun was shining and it was boilin’!  A late afternoon walk (not a very long walk) took us to Achamore Gardens.  They are well worth a walk around, especially on a warm sunny evening.

The very warm evening meant our first BBQ on board was a must!

Happy days.
