Dun Laoghaire to Bangor 22 June 2022

Rockabill with its large Roseate Tern colony

Another long run today, from Dun Laoghaire back to Bangor.  It was dead calm all the way, with large numbers of Guillemots, Razorbills, Manx Shearwaters, Kittiwakes, and other seabirds.  We made a slight detour to go close by Rockabill where the largest colony of Roseate Terns in Europe breeds. What a treat! There were Roseates everywhere, along with a smaller number of Common Terns.  Wonderful!

Large numbers of seabirds were all around us for the first couple of hours of the trip, all very visible in the calm though damp weather.

We maintained a very steady speed, of 8.5 - 9.0 kns except when we picked up tide past the Ards Peninsula, and reached 11.5 kns in the Copeland Sound.  Very satisfying.

We got into Bangor at 20.30, spot on time - after retrieving a ball fender that had escaped due to an unraveling knot just outside the harbour. We considered it man overboard practice.

We probably should have been more elated at finally bringing Lazaway home (her new home), than we actually were.  We were all too tired to celebrate, but very pleased to have finally got Lazaway to Bangor. The celebrations will follow!

Happy Days!
