Salen to Tobermory 15 July 2022

Tobermory this evening - as colourful as ever! |
After a very wet night the weather cleared at about 09.00 and steadily improved through the day, though there was again quite a strong breeze as we motored out of Loch Sunart and across to Tobermory.
Our first job this morning was to try to patch up the leaking fuel pipe on the starboard engine. This we did with magic tape produced by Gordon - see bandaged pipe photo.
While we thought we had done a pretty good job of bandaging the pipe it was to be the 2 hour run to Tobermory that would properly test it. We checked it after one hour running and again after arrival at Tobermory, and found that the leak was dry as a dry thing. Perfect. We will keep checking it, but now hope that it might carry us home. Fingers crossed 🤞.

Salen looking lovely even at low tide |
After our repair work at Salen we went on one of the walks recommended by Jan and Mark who own the pontoon. We did their Sunart Oakwoods walk - through lovely old woodland along the shore of Salen inlet. Very steep slope and wet and muddy from all the rain recently. It was a real treat to see a large Slow Worm Anguis fragilis cross our path.
There were also good examples of bracket fungi, specifically Hoof Fungus Fomes fomentarius we think. This species is also known as tinder bracket and has been used for thousands of years as portable fire lighting material.
We saw a few Harbour Porpoise on the way up Loch Sunart, and spent some time looking for White-tailed Sea Eagle near Carna Island - Jan had said they are there regularly - but no luck.
We plan a Prosecco at 17.00 and dinner in Café Fish at 20.00 Livin’ the dream!
Today’s route - again MarineTraffic has not picked up the first part up though Loch Sunart.
